Joshelin’s Rant, or something like it…

October 8th, 2006 by Joshelin - No Responses

Hello and good day to all of you.  I’m almost done the behemoth..er..novel The Alienist.  It is a very…wordy, yet enticing book that I cannot seem to finish despite endless hours of reading.  My next feat will be On The Road, by Jack Kerouac, a recommendation from Mr. McSkimming.  ‘Tis a book about Kerouac and his friends as they take a road trip while on hallucinogenic drugs…or something like that.  After that, it’s back to Dan Brown for me: Deception Point and Digital Fortress.
Another interesting factoid about me…I’ve reverted back to writing in my writers journal (frightning I know)…I don’t quite know why, but I felt compelled to jot some points of my literary journey through life onto the pages so not to be forgotten.
Oh, how entertaining a semester…who would have thought that work would be involved in co-editing Macline!  Here I thought I had taken easy street.  How misleading the job title is.  But seriously…I’m enjoying it a little too much.  It’s such a great feeling to be a part of something that touches (or has the ability to touch) so many people’s lives.  If only everybody would make use of the resource…ahh..one can only dream…
It’s a thrill to be involved in it though, and an honour to work with the hilarious Mr. Volcansek, and the lovely Mrs. Young.  You all should join, or at least contribute something to our humble paper. (Because we all know what kind of talent this ex-class holds)

Anywhoo, I must be off…
Until next time….carpe diem.

I don’t know how much we’re allowed to put per post so he’s an exerpt from my narrative….

As we had just entered the park, the rain got heavier. It felt as though rocks were falling from the sky. The sky and land were at war and we were in the middle. I had a salty and sour taste in my mouth from the rain. I felt like I was drowning. Quickly my parents took us and ran for shelter under the roof of a recreation center. We were soaked head to toe.

The rain drops fell harder, making instant puddles on the ground. It sounded like static on a television or a poorly tuned radio. As looking through a scratched window I could only see blurs. Blobs of People were running towards their cars and the recreation centre seeking shelter.

Post Mortem Boredom

September 7th, 2006 by LordWorm - No Responses

Hello boils and ghouls. It’s been a tad hard for me to get on here and post any updates. Between this and the thousands of accounts I have scattered thoughout the internet, I’ve been a tad occupied. It appears to be that time of the season again. People dashing about to get ready for the coming of the fall semester. It’s going to be pretty odd not sitting behind a desk for awhile, or outside with the other lost souls. But the time for regret has passed. I’m still here, lord knows for how long, seeking employment and spreading sickness to the minds of the willing and weak alike. Lately my time has been spent perfecting my drumming and looking for talent where ever it may exist. I’m like a case of herpes, you’ll never be rid of me.

Cheers and Beers to you all.

August..one more month until school

August 6th, 2006 by sonya48 - No Responses

Hey everyone! Well, we’re in august and that means there’s only one more month of sleeping in and having all of this free time. :(   Well actually to tell you the truth i’ve been kind of bored lately so i can’t wait until school starts..at least i can see all of my friends who i haven’t seen lately! Anyways, yesterday (August 5th, 06) My two sisters, and a girl named Becca woke up extra early and went to Gage Park where the Y108 ROCK ‘N ROLL PICNIC was taking place. Bands were scheduled to perform. AAAAHHHH!! The band THORNLEY was scheduled for 8:00pm! I love Thornley! So anyways, we were the first ones there and we had to sit in the scorching heat for hours! (10 hours just to be specific.) It was worth it though because the earlier bands were really good, plus best of all WE GOT AUTOGRAPHS!!!!! (As you can see i still have that habit of putting way too many exclamation marks when i’m excited! ;) ) So, it was really fun..and it was FREE which was the icing on the cake basically. Joshelin showed up earlier and was really excited about some band called APRIL WINE. I’ve never heard of them but apparantly they were a big band in the ’70’s..see i wasn’t around in the seventies so i wouldn’t know. I was more excited about meeting THORNLEY..and yes going there early really paid off because i was in the FRONT ROW! :) At the end of their performance we actually had the opportunity to get Thornley’s autograph but they kept moving around and stuff…i got an autograph from one member of the band so that’s good enough :) WHAT A DAY!! It was absolutely worth sitting in heat, that’s all I can say! Plus we’ve been in worse weather waiting for bands and at outdoor hockey games..yes i know we’re crazy!

Anyways, I’ve gotta get going so bye bye!

Summer Reading

July 25th, 2006 by mr.behiel - One Response

I have been feeling a sense of lost for the last couple of days and it finally struck me as to why I have this feeling following me around.  I finished my current read “The Last Templar”.  It sounds strange but I think that is the sign of an amazing read.  When you miss the sights and sounds the author created for you.  When you wonder what the characters are up to.  Okay maybe I just need some sleep.

Anyways for those of you looking to pick something up (not until you finish The Alienist Joshelin) read this book.  It’s by Raymond Khoury and has religion, history on the crusades, the FBI, archeology and an intesting love story. It was an amazing read. The author has already completed the screenplay and it will be made into a movie. It’s a fantastic exploration of organized religion and gives some fastinating history on the foundation of the three major religions of the world. If this hasn’t created interest check out the website at www.thelasttemplar.com. It’s so good I’m even going to make Mr. Cheeseman read it.

Another great read this summer has been “Teacherman” by Frank McCourt.  An autobiographical look at his 30 years teaching in New York.  He’s a teacher who love to talk and tell stories… oh shut up all of you!

Enjoy the summer and like Dori says in ”Finding Nemo”:

“Just keep reading, just keep reading”

(yes I’m paraphrasing)

The summer time

July 22nd, 2006 by Joshelin - 3 Responses

Well, good day to anybody who reads this.  I would just like to say first off, that I cannot reply to any posts what-so-ever.  This website won’t let me.  Moving on…
WONDERLAND..greatest thing ever.  Sonya was right when she said that it is the happiest place on the planet.  (Except…I haven’t been everywhere, so it isn’t fair for me to draw that conclusion…)  Meeting Rex Goudie and Melissa O’Neil was freaking cool (because I’m such a huge Canadian Idol fan to begin with…but Kalan Porter rocks)  Anyways…Melissa was a total snob (and yes, I’m on a first name basis with her) but Mr. Goudie was gorgeous and really sweet.  What Sonya forgot to point out, was that I was the one who recognized them in the first place…he’s soo cute..he has a great smile.  I loved the rides, and I seriously recommend that you all go there and have an amazing day…that has been the highlight of my summer so far.  Plus, I got a pretty henna butterfly on my back…

Other than that…I have been slaving away at Giant Tiger still, but seriously, I am having a great summer.  I miss all of you a lot (…honestly).  It feels weird not having to pull all nighters and constantly have something to hand in and worry about marks and all that fancy jazz.  Hope to see you all in September or in the near future.

AND….GO SEE “THE ANT BULLY”..PRODUCED BY MY VERY OWN HUSBAND TOM (THAT’S MR. HANKS TO YOU).  I HAVE NO DOUBT THAT IT WILL BE ABSOLUTELY GENIOUS LIKE EVERY OTHER MINUTE OF EXISTENCE THAT RADIATES OUT OF HIS HEAVENLY BODY.  IT’S ANIMATED BY THE WAY.  sorry for the caps…

P.S. Mr. B…how did everybody like their gifts?
P.S.S. Yes…I got his family gifts…I feel like I know his kids and wife personally for some strange reason..( Could it possibly be from the stories that Mr. Behiel told in class?…..)

The Summer so far…

July 18th, 2006 by sonya48 - No Responses

So, this is my first attempt at actually writing something in here…I was going to write something earlier but i didn’t really understand how to use this new website and i was confused. (That’s what happens when you’re computer-illiterate like me) Anyways, my summer has been great so far…i like the whole “sleeping in thing” and having all the free time in the world to do absolutely nothing..because it really feels like i’m doing nothing! (That is when i’m not working) However, on July 16 Joshelin, my sisters, a friend named Chris and I all went to Wonderland and that was amazingly fun! (ISN’T WONDERLAND THE HAPPIEST PLACE ON EARTH??) I think i just got that confused with Disney Land but oh well..it was fun anyways. We met Rex Goudie and Melissa O’Neil. They’re the final two contestants in last season’s Canadian Idol. They were just waiting in line for one of the rides and we just happened to be in that same line. Honestly, i really never listened to any of their songs or anything like that, but it’s not every day you get to meet singers! It was awesome. So, other than meeting Canadian Idols, I’ve occupied myself by reading. I re-read the Harry Potter books (because i love harry potter) and I started reading “Into the Wild” by Jon Krakaur which is pretty good so far. If anyone has any more suggestions or recommendations for books to read, just let me know. ( I need to pass the time some how…) So, i’m gonna go now, but if this blog is posted successfully then i’m sure i’ll be writing more in here  ;)

P.S. For those of you who know THREE DAYS GRACE and BILLY TALENT their new cd’s are AMAZING! I’m not just saying that because they are my favourite bands either…haha..

A song for my lovelies!

Joshelin has been begging me for a song I wrote and recorded, a VERY long time ago… So I thought I would share it with you, since it’s kind of in the writing category…

This is no First Class…

July 11th, 2006 by Joshelin - One Response

Well, first of all, I just want to state for the record that I am having First Class withdrawals…and I never EVER thought I would say that.  However, I like this and it makes me feel connected to all of you once again.  I am very pleased that we have been able to keep in contact with one another through the amazing invention of the internet.  Well, I hope that everybody is having an enjoyable summer…I know I am what with my busy schedule of sleeping for 11 hours a day, lazing around for the next 4 hours, and working for 5 hours.  It’s a beautiful life.  I am pleased to say that I have picked up the habit of reading once again…I hated not having time to read…but that was the fault of one Mark Waserman….but who’s naming names?  George Orwell’s 1984..a magnificent read, and I recommend it to you all.  I am about to embark on a literary journey that will probably take me the rest of the summer judging by the sheer volume of the novel:  The Alienist. T’was lent to me by the one and only Mr. Behiel.  Well, the silent and sovereign call of Giant Tiger is ringing in my ears..and it is almost that time when I have to depart to my exciting and vibrant retailing job for $8.30 an hour.  I bid you all adieu..or something like that.
